Music O'Monday: Three Babies

"Though I tried,
I blasphemed and denied,
I know they will be returned to me."

This past weekend in our lovely upstate New York state city, most folks celebrated St. Patrick's Day by either running the annual five mile race (1,450 people this year!), drinking heavily, wearing green or some combination of the three (like yours truly).

Prior to sitting down this morning to prepare a Music Monday submission, I definitely had it in my head to select a song by an Irish artist NOT named U2 (though I do dig them). A number of artists/bands popped into my skull during my morning run (to be checked up on Youtube later: Afro Celt Sound System, The Hothouse Flowers, Simple Minds...), any number of bands I enjoyed primarily during high school and college.

Eventually, I settled on sharing the tune "Three Babies," by Sinéad O'Connor. Though I have not thought of her music for quite a while, for a period of time she was so explosively in the limelight (The Lion and The Cobra, anyone?)... a powerful force that would not be repressed. It seems a loss that Sinead is no longer accessible as an artist, especially as her message of love is in such short supply now.

Re hearing this song now, for the first time in years, its hard not to remember the birth of my son... an experiential touchstone for most of those things (images and songs) which most touch my heart...

Breathe in, breathe out… YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
