Sunday is Run-day

Week 13, Key Run #3b: 11 miles in 1:28:54 min. @ 7:45 a.m.
Plan: 20 miles @ MP + 45-60 sec/mile
Weather: Fair, 33°F, 72% Humidity, Wind: Calm; feels like 33°F.
Target Tempo Pace: MP + 60 sec. = 8:26 min/mile, Overall= 1:32:05
Actual Tempo Pace: 8:08 min/mile, Overall= 1:28:54
Course: Crazy 10.8 Run (loop, mostly flat, roads) made using USATF Map It!

Pre-Run Ruminations: I'm calling this "Key Run 3b" primarily because I put in ten miles yesterday (5 in a race and 5 to and from the race location) and, as a result, I'm paring back slightly the total distance I'm putting in today.

This morning will also be my first run wearing my new shoes, a pair of Brooks Beast shoes. I have been holding off buying shoes (due to the astronomical prices) and after trying some $49.99 (on sale) ASICS and Nikes, and failing to find any in size 12, I settle on the slightly more expensive size 11.5 Brooks shoes. While I recognize that some shoes "run" differently in sizing, I held off for a few days training in the shoes so that I could be sure the comfort (given the size) was not my imagination. After a few days wearing them in the house at different times, they seem to be fine, so onto the feet and out of the house they (and I) went.

Post-Run Reflections: Understandably, it was difficult to tell exactly how well my new shoes "worked." While I felt well, my knees did ache and I was slowed, more by the fact that this was my third run in three days (having raced a five miler yesterday) than any concerns regarding new footwear.

I certainly hope that the excellent weather continues... though it's hard to fathom that the snowfall could be done for the season already, especially in upstate New York.

Breathe in, breathe out… YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
