Sunny Day Afterschool Run

On the black iron fence surrounding the fields at Monroe High School, (on my route today) there are the remnants of what appears to have been a community poetry project of sorts. While many words have been ripped from the fence, the words and phrases which remains are somewhat poetic--even if unintentionally.

Week 10, Key Run #2: 10.3 miles in 1:21:11 min. @ 3:25 p.m.
Plan: 1 mile ez, 6 miles @ LT pace, 1 mile ez
Weather: Fair, 32°F, 43% Humidity, Wind: From SE @ 3 mph; feels like 24°F.
Target Tempo Pace: 8:06 min/mi (LT) for 5 miles, 8:26 min/mi (ez)
Actual Tempo Pace: 7:52 min/mi
Course: Out of my neighborhood and onto the Genesee River/Erie Canal Trailway (and back!).

Once again I found my schedule necessitating "back-to-back" training days with fartlek five miles last night and a ten-mile LT (LT pace is about marathon pace minus 30 to 50 seconds per mile). After reviewing my pace during today's run (7:52), I need to increase my intended marathon pace significantly (and thereby increase my LT, MT and MP accordingly) if I am to better my existing marathon PR (3:26:37)--assuming I ever run a marathon again.

While my lungs, breathing and overall from feel strong the intense lingering ache in my knees reminds me that such an endeavor might not be the best idea in the world...

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
