East Rochester Karknocker 5k

Run: 3.1 miles in :19:23 min. @ 7:00 p.m.

Weather: Mostly Cloudy, 65°F, 92% Humidity, Winds: From SSW @ 5 mph; feels like 67°F.

Pace: 6:14 min./per mile avg.

Pre-Race Observations: The unusual evening run had me trying to figure how I might safely simulate my morning routine in the afternoon. In an attempt to stay on personal schedule, I ate a "dinner" of elbow macaroni and tomato sauce at 11:30 a.m., then I "slept" by laying down and reading at around 1:00 p.m., and "waking up" only an hour later at around 2:00 p.m. to drink some water and eat a plum.

After going over the course by car earlier in the day with my son, I felt that the gently rolling hills and lengthy straight-aways might provide me with a good opportunity to do well. Of course, we'll know the truth of that later today.

Post-Run Reflections: I ran very well this evening, supported by a few participant’s in particular who pushed me to perform at a higher level. I just missed PR-ing at the distance, and was especially happy that both of my kids (my son came with me and my daughter was there with her cross-country team, most of which were participating themselves). In the end I missed out on placing in my gender/age group, placing fifth, though I did come in twenty-third overall.

Though the weather was fine at the start (see the pic below-center taken by Jack), by the time I crossed the finish, we were minutes away from a significant cloud burst, as evidenced by the pic above (also by Jack).

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!

Hi,

I raced in the East Rochester Karknocker and came across your page while searching for the results. Actually, I was running behind you for the first mile and a half before you left me in the proverbial dust. Anyway, I'm just interested to know how you found out where you placed in your age group and overall (I also did not have the distinction of finishing in the top 3 for my age group but would still like to know how I did officially).
Thanks a lot, and good luck at the Fishes and Loaves race in Honeyoe. I'm planning on running it as well.

howdy, rich!

i hung around after the race to check the postings... usually they're posted somehwere near the finish (as you'll recall it was pouring out at the end last friday--so they were near the entrance of the school)... usually i check the grtc website or, in the case of this particular race, they were posted at the pcr timing site.

good luck wednesday... it looks like it's going to be a warm one!
