Roadie Run: 7 miles in :55:12 min. @ 10:00 a.m.

Weather: Partly Sunny, 74°F, 51% Humidity, Winds: N @ 4 mph; feels like 74°F.

Pace: 7:53 min./per mile avg.

Both my kids had activities to participate in this morning in the town of Fairport, where their mother lives and they go to school, so I figured I would venture out onto the rolling suburban roads for a short run at a time during which both would be occupied. There was a period of about an hour between Jordyn's basketball weight training and Jack's baseball camp that would be perfect.

I am vaguely familiar with the community, having spent time there with the kids (and also as a child, myself) but I had not anticipated the rolling nature of the roads. Roads never seem so steep when you're driving them as they do when you need to run up (or down them). At any rate, it was a challenging workout, and for a short time anyway, much warmer feeling than the thermometer showed.

While it is nice to get out into other places to run, there is definitely a degree of caution which comes into play as I found myself checking things out more carefully. That is not to say that there was anything particularly scary or menacing about the neighborhood streets, just a lack of familiarity on my part. I guess I would liken the first time experience to that of someone who is driving a route for the first time simply looking to be aware of possible dangers...

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
