Touring the Genesee Riverway Trail (North)

Weather: Partly Sunny, 81°F, 30% Humidity, Winds: NNE @ 9 mph; feels like 80°F.

Bicycling: 4 miles in :40:00 min. @ 12:00 p.m.
Pace: 10:00 min./per mile avg.

This afternoon Anne and I went for a leisurely bicycle ride on the northern most part of the Genesee River Trail. Bringing our camera with us we were able to photograph a few of our community's landmarks, some new and some old. We began our ride at Turning Point Park and made our way to the shore of Lake Ontario.

The new Col. O'Rourke Memorial Bridge, formerly the location of the old Stutson Street Bridge, is visible from the path, as are the numerous boat docks and marinas along the Genesee River, which empties in Lake Ontario.

The Dentzel Carousel (below) at Lake Ontario Beach is a pretty significant local landmark, for which there was even a CD of music released about ten years ago. This is the first time I've visited it in a few years, though I recall having been at the carousel every so often for the past thirty years:

A fairly recent addition to the list of riverside attractions, one which we stopped to photograph on the way back to our car, is this wooden plank walking/riding bridge, referred to as "docks"(?) on the city's website, over a section of the river. There are points along the walkway which are designed for folks who want to fish, watch the ducks, swans and other birds, or simply relax.

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
