The Guilty Table: The Rotisserie Chicken Conundrum

Lying in bed last evening, the chicken churning in my stomach, I had pangs, not of hunger, but rather of guilt. I began to question the sincerity of my cause, especially in light of the chicken parts I had scarfed down only four hours prior...
as I began to share yesterday, one meal that brings me a level of guilt almost immediately after the satisfaction of stuffing my pie hole subsides is a Wegmans Rotisserie Chicken.

Despite my efforts to live a more sustainable lifestyle, the expedient satisfaction of a quickly devoured factory chicken are hard to resist. The guilt I'll feel (as I did two evenings ago--which prompted these posts) extend from a number of concerns I have regarding how the food (rotisserie chicken, in this case) makes its way from hatching to preparation, the level of quality of its preparation, as well as the overall nutritional value.

Sometimes the food seems unevenly warmed or cooked. (This concern must be common as it has even been addressed by Wegmans Senior Vice President of Consumer Affairs.

Even worse, just how humanely can an bird be "cultivated" for consumption when they are prepared and sold at a rate of hundreds a day per store? I think of this often and though I may be getting more liberal (I like to think "thoughtful"), I have a difficult time settling my concerns; and to this point it has not stopped me from doing the quick and easy thing of feeding my occasional appetite with these cheaply made, poorly prepared, ultra-cost-effective little birds.

But, the time now for think it through or lamenting the choice has passed and I need to STOP EATING THESE DAMNABLE TASTY CHICKENS!
