A Garden Preparing We Will Go...

Anne and I finally began preparing our small vegetable garden to receive plantings. This will our third year with a garden, and each year preparations have become easier and easier. When we first moved into our hoe, this area was a fenced in dog run area with pebble and hardened dirt ground. This is also the second straight year we have increased the size of the area.

This, of course, required that I first remove the sod in order to allow the roto-tiller to move more easily through the soil. Anne remarked that it would be nice if our entire lawn were as hearty as the grass covering this area... me, too!

After tilling and removing any stray grass, weeds, etcetras, whiel the soil looked "nice" it appeared to be deficient in nutrients. It was at tis point that our compost pit (whcih the boys and I made about four years ago) continued to pay off with about five medium-sized wheel barrels full of nutrient rich compost.

After about two hours, our garden is ready to go, so hopefully, if all goes as planned, we'll spend some time tomorrow purchasing some plants.

We've had success in the [past with many varieties of tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, squash... but with our additional space, who knows what we'll come home with!

Breathe in, breathe out… YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
