Roadie: 2014 Airfield X-C Invitational
My son Jack, and his suite-mates, began their sophomore season as members of the Oneonta Men's Cross-Country team today. The team hosted the 2014 Airfield Invitational at Fortin Park in Oneonta, New York. While last year's race was quite a bit sunnier, today's weather was nothing if not "classic" x-c weather: low-to-moderate temps, grey and drizzling. The men's race went off first this year, and the rain grew progressively harder, making it difficult to take pictures without a hood or umbrella during the women's race. Both the men's and women's teams swept the top five positions in their respective races, winning the day.
A year of training, transitioning to high school miles and courses to college ones, made a big difference and each young man improved upon last year's times. Only two other teams competed today, neighboring colleges SUNY Delhi and Hartwick, but it was a good primer for next week's more substantial competition at the University of Rochester Invitational at Genesee Valley Park.
