I recognize that in some ways we're late to this dance.
We do not have cable television in our home and haven't for well over four years. I have never seen an episode of The Sopranos or Curb Your Enthusiasm, although I am aware of them, as they are now cultural icons of a sort. While in South Dakota last month, Anne and I saw quite a few posters advertising the HBO television show Deadwood, but, of course, had never seen it. In the past three weeks since return from the actual Deadwood, we have been watching the first two seasons of the series on DVDs either borrowed from the library or rented from the video store.
What an amazing f****ng show... while there are stupendous "star performances" by the primary actors (most notably, Ian McShane as Al Swearengen and Tim Olyphant as Sherrif Bullock), it is the fact that ALL the smaller performances are of such a high caliber that adds to the shows ultra-realistic vibe... From Little China kingpin, Mr. Wu, to Swearengen's frontier hitman, Adams, every actor seems to the chew the scenery when given the opportunity to shine. The show is busting a gut with great performances and with so many storylines, the actors make the most of the screen time they are afforded.
Breathe in, breathe... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
