Returning to the Old Ways

Now that summer has ended and I have reruned to the everyday pattern of my work-a-day life, I have the feeling it is time to seto away from WALK-A-BOUT for a while and return to my blogging roots. While I am neither an expert in Native American lore, Gary Snyder, or environmentalism, I remain on this journey. Just as I have tried to do with WALK-A-BOUT! I invite you to stay with me as I transtion my blog title and spirit back to EARTH HOUSE HOLD. Remember, it is the spirit of this journey that gives it meaning; whether we succeed, fail, or keep on the path.

EARTH HOUSE HOLD was my first blog started in August 2005. Initially that title was intended to be a "place holder" while I noodled through how I wanted to focus this blog. In reflection, I feel that it has once again become appropriate. While in college I began reading the poetry of Gary Snyder, Wendall Berry, and Robert Bly. All three writers were (and are) engineers in social change, working toward building a stronger understanding of their own role in this world, and in some cases, attempting to move society's understanding to a new and different place...

Fifteen years later, married with three children, armed with an intelligent and informed wife, working through my relationships with family, co-workers and the world, thier philosophies (as represented in their wirtings)of environment and community continues to resonate with me.

Like most, I want to be better person, and in doing so, leave my "place" better for my having been there. Does this mean not eating meat? Does it mean buying what I can from my neighborhood co-op? Does it mean building relationships with those in my community and playing a role in grass-roots politics? Does it mean standing for what you believe in?

For the uninitiated, Turtle Island refers to the Native American creation myth in which our world exists on the back of a turtle. Again, I am no expert, but I am willing to learn and share. Welcome on the path with me toward Turtle Island.

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
