Heart Monitor Data: 253 cals, 62% MHR avg., 69% MHR max.Yesterday, I ran 10 moderately paced miles, so today, while I wanted to run, I made the more disciplined decision to ride the bicycle down in the basement... for what it's worth, I also spent quite a bit of time late this morning cutting down a few ugly bushes and raking the front yard...
I am glad to have worked the bicycling in, but am a little disappointed by my willingness to only go at it for 30 min. I had read in the most recent issue of Runner's World that 60 minutes of bicycling at 70% average MHR is the equivalent of a 5 mile run. My goal today had been to clock those 60 minutes so that I could intellectually "tell" myself that I had "run" the five mile equivelancy.
I did, however, have a difficult time with the bike as my knees felt very unstable and I had a hard time staying focused. The time seemed to move at a crawl and negative, defeating self-talk creeped into the workout. The magazines I made available for reading during the ride were not enough to disuade the symphony of self-defeat, and, finally, at 30 minutes (a nice "round" number to me), I pulled the plug.
On the bright side, it was twice as long as my previous stationary attempt and with a little mental conditioning, I can look forward to building my time in advance of the eventual inclement winter weather that could keep me from the roads.
Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
