Although the weather was not too bad after the flurries had ceased, I had committed to not running on the road as frequently and to attempt to diversify my exercise routine, translation: cross-train... which I did, kinda. While the "motion" is the same whether running on the road to treadmill the experience is significantly different and, to this weekend warrior, one is definitely preferable to the other.
Generally speaking, I really dislike running on the treadmill, not because it is very hard, but because 1) it is boring, 2) I'd rather be out in the environmental sounds where it is not so noisy and 3) it is kind of boring. Even with all this, I still made my way to our local YMCA early this afternoon and was pleasantly surprised to see that other than someone on the elliptical machine, it was empty and therefore, nice and quiet.
I went into the experience with some mentally established set of personal criteria: no more than 3 miles, vary incline, vary pace, and put my best effort into "seeing" the training option as a valuable one. On all three counts the approach was successful, though I had forgotten (in the six months or so since last working out at the Y) how hot, humid, and sweaty the whole thing can be!
All in all, until there is enough snow to shoe and I figure out some sort of core workout, this will work as a cross-training option (of sorts).
Embrassez votre été invincible!
