Virginia Roadie Revisited: Main Street, Gloucester

I recognize, dear reader, that I have been a little slow in posting pictures of our trip to Gloucester, Virginia, but fear not as the time I have between gardening, running and working increases I will be more diligent. When opportunity does present itself, I (and my trusty digital camera) will endeavor to build the occasional photo essay! Let's roll...

Last Saturday, Anne, Greg and I took the short drive from our hotel to Main Street, Gloucester where there was a Revolutionary War reenactment taking place. There is a small roundabout in the center of downtown, which is the actual place where recruitment for solders to battle against the British occurred. The following pictures depict the regimentation of the recruits, as well as the use of muskets (minus the bullets, though, thank you!).

Each time we take a tour a historical site, or experience a re-enactment, I am amazed at how alive American history can be and frustrated that, as an educator, I have somehow failed to make it as engaging as it could be. I always walk away with something that I hope to incorporate into the right unit (Johnny Tremain or My Brother Sam Is Dead) comes around.

Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
