It's funny what you see at 4:30 a.m. in the morning... this morning I caught a glimpse out of the corner of my eye of what appeared to be a sphinx of sorts. What had initially appeared to be a mystic beast was in truth a woman dressed in a lion mascot costume, except for the head piece which she was cradling in her arms. The sphinx was talking with a second young lady, and as I padded by them in the rain they continued talking, about what I could not make out. The distinct smell of cheap high-school girl perfume hung in the air was quickly overtaken by the scent of cigarette smoke trailing which was coming from behind a bicyclist covertly pedaling his bicycle down the sidewalk with sunglasses on, the cigarette hanging from his mouth.
Eventually, the sun began to rise as I made my way through Cobbs Hill and the more familiar sights and smells one thinks of in the morning came into play... wet leaves, heavy, humid air... Continuing along my course the hour passed quickly and the surreal life shifted to normalcy of a few odd folks jogging or walking in the rain..
Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
