Pace: 8:02 min./per mile

Course: Stayed close to home this morning doing a series of up-and-downs on the side streets, all within a tight orbit of mi casa.
When asked “How are you feeling?” in relation to my running and level of preparedness for next Saturday’s 50k, it is easy to reflexively respond “Great!” I have been training hard and am doing my best to ease into (and through) my two-plus-week taper, though it feels much more like “quitting training.” The occasional Achilles’ tweak is stretched out easily enough and the decrease in miles and longer rests are psychologically passed off as necessary due to “a lack of time.”
So while I do feel “Great!” it is not always that simple a matter of saying or accepting what I am passing off as “great”-ness. The training schedule this past week, and I suspect into next week, has dwindled to what feels like a few odd runs of between four and eight miles, and while I haven’t been following the “letter of the law” when heading out to run, I hope that I have been following the spirit of the plan in trying to stay loose and, most importantly, uninjured.
Breathe in, breathe out... YOU AND I ARE ALIVE!
