For me it is my bad toe.The bad toe is the second toe, next to my big toe, on my left foot. Periodically, over the past two years, it will ache when any pressure was placed on the area under the nail. Especially if the pressure came from above. Although it is a nuisance, I don't think much about it until I clip my toenails, which I happen to ritualistically do on the evenings before a race. Truth is, about a year ago I went to my podiatrist and he gave me some Lamasil (yuck!) to "paint" on it... come to find out the pressure was being created by some fungus (double yuck!) which had been growing below the toenail resulting in what can only be described as a "toe horn" (see dark, disturbing image above and to the right).
After this morning's race my bad toe was aching... well, badly. I thought maybe I had frost bite or had broken it. I recall telling my wife that I was afraid to take my sock off for fear of what I would find. When I did work up the courage I found that the fungus I had previously wrestled under control had returned and that the tip and top of the bad toe was tender from the 7.5 mile run. The "fungus callus"(?) under the toenails was especially sore... OUCH!
During a quick trip to the pharmacy later in the afternoon, I pickled up some tincture with anti-fungal stuff in it in an effort to rid my toe of this evil growth once and for all.... or at least minimize the discomfort so that I can walk, then run!
Embrassez votre été invincible!
